Hello,my name is Robel Berhane Gidey and I am originally from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. I came to the
United States on Spring 2013 soon after finishing my high school back home . I am currently a senior
student currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in International Business. I started being interested in
studying or just experiencing Asia when I was in high school. My dad, who is a successful business man,
travels to China for business matters frequently. I got into my major because of having an interest and
desire to do business in a global setting and also of a plan of starting my own company specializing in
international trade. I plan to move to China to continue my master’s degree while at the same time
working for my own company once I finish my undergraduate studies here in the United States of
America.
I chose University of Hong Kong as my study abroad place because of my desire to study in a lively city,
the fact that Hong Kong being a financial center hub, and of the fact that University of Hong Kong
delivers quality education at affordable price. I want to experience something different and new that
can add unique perspective into my mind. I believe that University of Hong Kong does just that and is a
place to meet interesting people from different cultures and also learn more about business in a more
practical way as well. I met a friend who went to study abroad at the University of Hong Kong and
shared with me his experience of meeting different type of people, trying new things, and travelling
places in Asia. I was jealous and wanted to try all he experienced or even more of the things he didn’t
get to see. Getting a study abroad opportunity at the University of Hong Kong will help me expand my
networks further, learn new business practices both in class and outside, and also broaden my
knowledge about Chinese culture.
Being a senior undergraduate here in the United States, I have acquired experiences and skills that will
aid me in my future endeavors as well as bring something of value to the University of Hong Kong as
well. Some of the main skills developed over the years include such us leadership, communication, time
management, customer service, and public speaking skills. I have attached my resume in the CV
