Executive Summary
In today’s academic as well as global workforce, distributed teams are becoming much more
common. Academic and workforce virtual teams are related by the fact that successful
engagement in academic teams will ultimately lead to successful engagement in virtual teams
once a student enters the workforce. Academic and workforce teams are similar in that they share
the same common goal: the success of the team. They are also similar with respect to the
diversity of cultures and ethnicities of its members. The result is a team which is greater than the
sum of its parts due to the variety of perspectives. These varying viewpoints increase not only
other teammates cultural awareness, but the depth to which problems can be solved. Certain
strategies can be explored while in academic teams which will lead to greater success when
entering the workforce. Through conversations and general norming of behaviors, the team
develops a collaborative network with trust among team members abilities and the methods of
communication and data/information sharing. This trust is achieved through collaborative events
