1) The dataset MPGvsWEIGHT.sav contains information on the weight and fuel
efficiency (as measured by a MPG rating) of 43 cars. Use this dataset to explore the
relationship between weight and fuel efficiency by generating a scatter plot.
(a) Before you generate a scatter plot, form a hypothesis about the relationship
between the weight of a car and its fuel efficiency (MPG). Do you think they
will be associated? If so, what is the nature of the association/correlation
(positive, negative)? How strong do you think the association will be (very
strong, moderately strong, weak, no association)?
I think the weight of a car and its fuel efficiency are indirectly related; the greater
the weight of the car, the lower its MPG. However, the relation will only be
moderately strong since there will probably be some exceptions.
(b) Do you think that the weight will perfectly predict the fuel efficiency? Why or
why not? Are there other factors (apart from the weight) that might come into
play in determining the MPG rating? Give an example?
No, I don’t think that the weight will perfectly predict the fuel efficiency because
