Abstract
Each and every organization strives at ensuring that its sensitive data, information and related
assets are safe and secure, both in storage and transmission. This project aims at exploring the
basic functionalities and advantages provided for by the Oracle 12c as a vital tool for information
and database management. The Oracle database has got to evolve and newer and more
sophisticated versions have made their way into the market. In order to accomplish the basic
aspect of security, Oracle 12c uses some powerful tools and controls: masking of data, security
labelling, use of virtual private databases, data vault, auditing of databases and storage or
network authentication. These controls are the basic moves by the Oracle 12c to ensure and
maintain the security of the relative data. The database provides new and additional aspects and
tools to be incorporated as far as the subject of security is concerned. The new version of oracle,
that is, 12c, has come with new features as compared to the older versions. The new version
provides the multitenant aspect of database management whereby each and every database
created privately acts as an independent entity. These tools traverse all the processes operations
of database management ranging from creation of databases, transfer of files, use of links and
network connections, database administration, management and control. Any form of access to
the data and information stored in the databases are enlisted and provided for the administrators.
Additionally, aspects related to account management, password management and other
administrative operations have been developed and enhanced in the new version of Oracle 12c.
On a general scale, the database offers a four pillar view and strategy at the way it addresses the
security of its data. These pillars range from evaluation, prevention, detection and leveraging. All
these features are a compilation of controls, tools and features that are incorporated in the use of
the oracle 12c to help in managing the security of data at different levels and processes of using
the database. Given that it is a newer version, it definitely has got additional advantages and
features and it is subsequently placed as a vital move in the management and security of data and
information related to database structures and systems.
