What products do you/have you fetishized in your own life? Why do you fetishize them? Explain how
at least three institutions within the superstructure influence the fetishization of the products in our culture.
Where is the line between goods needed to live versus goods wanted due to their perceived “magical”
properties? Do you believe commodity fetishism is bad for society? Now that we fetishize so many products,
how could we change that aspect of culture?
COMMODITY FETISHISM
When I was first introduced to the Apple’s iPhone, to me it was a material object that had
an agency of its own, and it became an autonomous source of satisfaction to me as a consumer.
When I saw it, I only saw the surface. I still drink coffee at Starbucks and wear Armani jeans
