ABC has recently purchased a land to build an adult entertainment retail store and asked
Luke, an employee, to work on the project. As soon as the project for the store are made
public, a month from now, property values for the surrounding neighborhood will fall fast.
The land is located in the neighborhood where Owen, Luke’s brother, lives. Owen asked
an advice from Luke about the decision he made about an offer to sell his house at an “ok”
price. However, he thinks he is better off not selling the house because he might get a
better offer in the future when the real estate market improves.
Luke is now facing a dilemma to which whether he should tell his brother or keep it a
secret. Luke is in an ethical dilemma where he should keep his obligation to the ABC
Company as employee or to Owen as a family member. He has a responsibility to ABC
Company to keep the project secret until the company makes the news public. He also has
a duty to his brother to save him from the biggest mistake he is about to make by not
selling the house.
If Luke decided not to tell Owen about the secret, ABC plan will not be affected and Luke
will continue working on the project. However if Owen finds out that Luke Knew about
the project and how the project could affect house prices around the area, not only it will
result for Owen and his family to live in a house that’s worth less that that they paid for but
