I attended a CASA meeting. CASA is Christians Against Substance Abuse. This was a
very eye-opening meeting. It reminded me of meetings that we have with the patients at the Rusk
State Hospital when we have someone that is in there for substance abuse. The meeting started
out with a prayer and the serenity prayer by the instructor. The instructor is a pastor that had an
alcohol problem that he overcame.
They went around the room asking if anybody had anything to say, if the meeting was
helping them or if they had any goals to get them through to the next meeting. There was one in
there that had brought his wife. He told us that he really needed the support. He had started
drinking at a time in his life and just never stopped. The drinking continued to get worse to
where he was spending money that him and his family did not have. He started missing work and
