A Women’s Freedom
The events in “The Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin, the events happen so quickly. The
Story beings with Mrs. Mallarad being told that her husband was involved in a terrible train
accident. Mrs. Mallard rushes to her room to sit in her “roomy armchair” (The Story of an Hour,
pg.536) looking out the window trying to understand what has happened. She started realizing
that she is free. At first freedom to her seems like it a terrible thing to consider and to think
about. She keeps fighting her feelings but keeps whispering to herself “free, body and soul free”
(The Story of an Hour, pg. 537). In the story Mrs. Mallarad tries to show how a women should
act in the 19th century if you receive the news that your husbands has died. Kate Chopin
showcase that even if a person show a happy marriage that this can restrict a person from their
freedom. That even in a time of a terrible accident like death of her husband this may prove to
