Analysis of A Simple Plan
The movie A Simple Plan (1998), is all about the consequences of giving into temptation.
This movie demonstrates what happens when people are greedy and do not listen to their inner
conscience. The cinematographer, Alar Kivilo, demonstrates good and evil, and, right and
wrong, with use of shadow, symbolism, and mise en scene.
In the opening of the film there is a shot of a crow, then a shot of a fox looking into a
chicken coop. The shot then fades to a man, the main character of the film, Hank ( Bill Paxton),
leaving his job and going home, then Hanks brother Jacob ( Billy Bob Thorton), and Jacobs best
