A Rose for Emily
The story of Emily Grierson spans the latter years of the 19th century and climaxes at her
death when she was 74 years of age in rural Mississippi. Narrated in the first person
plural. The reader never gets the chance to know the narrator’s identity, and curiosity
makes it difficult to leave the story as the plot is filled with surprises and interesting
characters. The story, titled, ‘A Rose for Emily’, begins when out of curiosity or respect
the whole town showed up for Emily’s funeral. The narrator fills in the gaps of the
events of her life story, but not in chronological order and the reader is thrown in different
