Character Analysis of Emily Grierson
In “A Rose for Emily,” we are invited into the mysterious life surrounding Emily
Grierson, all seen through the eyes of the townspeople. In the beginning of the story, taking place
during Emily’s funeral, we learn that Emily has lived out most of her life as a recluse locked
away in her house. Most of the townspeople are not attending her funeral out of caring for Emily,
but instead to finally get a glimpse into her home and her life, which has been shielded from the
