A Reciprocal Approach
A personal code of ethics is like a pair of glasses. It is a framework used to more clearly see the
world. Think of these glasses as a living appendage of the human soul. If nurtured and exercised it
becomes a powerful instrument for the collection of wisdom and grace. A 2,500-year synopsis of
philosophical inquiry and humans are still addressing Socrates great question, “Why should I be moral?”
For me the answer is I can clearly see the reciprocal universal code of nature returning to us what it is
we put out into the world. On a human level this is the Golden Rule, respecting others as you would
respect yourself from their perspective. A person should be moral as an offer of respect for the healthy
function of a community. A community that benefits from people seeing through a moral lens. This
