A Platform based on Multiple Regression to Estimate the Effect of in-Hospital
Events on Total Charges
Introduction
Hospitals in the United States have made several efforts to ensure that the services provided
are of a high quality with the cost of care being minimized for the affordability of the common
citizen. It has been noted that an increase in the costs of care has not necessarily led to an
improvement of services provided, even with an addition of hospital equipment and an extra
provision of modern services.
There is a way of getting an insight of the costs to be incurred by a patient with a hospital
stay so as to enable the making of better decisions regarding cost. In turn, this enables cost-
cutting to take place. This will contribute to the clinical decision support systems, mostly in
support of the patients. To deal with the imbalance between the cost incurred and the services
provided, multiple regression techniques are being applied in order to provide for an estimation
