A model for reparation
in the communities affected
In his work on social justice, Eric Yamamoto (2009) describes four steps that help heal
and lead a society toward justice. The last of those steps is reparations. In this step, he discusses
the importance of making it right for those who have been affected by social injustice. While
some reparations may come in the form of government compensation in acknowledgement of
past harm, society should by no means wait for the government to take action (Goulash-Boza,
2016). There are many community organizations that have taken the reins to acknowledge past
injury and taken steps to redress and provide assistance in a meaningful way to allow closure to
the injured communities. One such organization is Liberty Hill (Liberty Hill, n.d.).
