A major improvement I would like to see at Houston Community College
The one major change I would make at Houston Community College is a simple one and
that is availability of more professors in the field of science, especially general chemistry and
organic chemistry. The reason for this is so simple: a college is an institution where students are
expected to use application of what is being taught in the class and lead into career making
ventures. By having more science professors in Houston Community College, one would be able
to have choices of picking science classes, all year round without being at the mercy of early
registration, because many students have problems of funding their education. Hence, when
registration is open for a particular science class, many of these science classes are filled up
within two days and this for one simple reason there are too many students who are vying for a
small availability of science classes. And those students who happen to be late in registering
within two days of when the classes are open, have to wait for another month or for another
semester, in many cases, and would even be very lucky if the classes are offered the following
semester.
The reason for this is obvious, there are not enough science teachers in Houston
Community College; it’s a simple law of economics, especially the theory of supply and demand,
in which there are more students trying to do sciences or applying for science courses while there
