A Lost Friend
To lose someone who I grew up with, and was close to all my life, is one of the hardest
things I have had to deal with. In March 2015, I lost one my closest family friends. His name was
Mark Dunn. He was my best friends dad. Mark was in my life for almost 14 years before he
passed away. Mark and his family were my neighbors until I was in the third grade. After that, I
had moved 3 miles away and still saw them almost every week. I will never forget the day my
father, who was best friends with Mark, had told me that Mark was diagnosed with cancer. It
made me so sad, and my heart was broken. Not just for me and my dad, but also knowing what
was about to happen to his whole family when they would get the news. His son was also one of
my best friends, and I was told I could not say anything to him yet until Mark decided to tell the
whole family. The pain his children and family would feel when they received the news would be
unbearable. I can’t imagine the struggles he went through with chemotherapy, and the pain from
it, and having to be strong for his family. To me losing a dear friend for many years was hard
enough, but his whole family must have had a very hard time dealing and coping with all the
