Abstract
The economic, social, and physical aspects of The Great Depression and The Great
Recession affected everyone in the United States during their respective time periods. The impact
of these events created many different programs and policy’s in the U.S. This paper explores both
the differences and the similarities between these events and will show you just what those were.
The differences and similarities of these events are achieved through thorough and credible
research of both events. Both events are described in detail from the events leading up to and the
events after. Then the differences and similarities of both are examined where both sides are
compared. The result of this paper shows that while they are both different in many ways they are
the same in many ways also. What happens after are also similar but different. Many different
programs were results of these events that created a better place to live for the people in the United
States. While these events were difficult for the people involved, without these events the U.S.
could be very different today.

Introduction
During history the United States has been faced with many different challenges. These
challenges test the will power of a country and how we deal with problems. In modern time one
problem faced is with economic challenges that can change in the blink of an eye. These challenges
create hardships that have to be dealt with. Two time periods in history that had a large impact on
the United States are The Great Depression and The Great Recession. These events have created
the corner stone of the way the economy works in the United States.
Throughout this paper both the similarities and differences between both events will be
explored in much detail. From the time prior to the time after each you will see that The Great
