COMMON PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS 2
In 2008 the United States economy tanked due to the real estate bubble bursting that
plummeted us into a recession, causing some 2.6 million people to lose their jobs. (Goldman,
2009) In 2009 that number soared to 7.9 million. (Isidore, 2010) According to the Bureau of
Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate topped 10% in October 2009. However, the United
States’ economy has slowly recovered since then, and we are currently at 6.2% unemployment.
Because of the huge number of job losses, the job pool has been inundated with underqualified
and even overqualified workers. Due to these reasons, more and more employers have had to
become more creative in their hiring processes by utilizing pre-employment testing, background
checks, credit checks, and even personality tests to help find that needle in the haystack.
