1 Introduction
This project aims to explore how an international organization responded the
environmental changes and technological changes happened in the world. As the world has
experienced a dramatic development of economy in this years, changes emerged
everywhere in terms of the business. In order to adjust to these changes, most
organizations conducted some plan to manage business operations and systems. This
project use Lenovo as the example to illustrate how a multinational organization deal with
the environmental changes and technological changes happened all over the world. Finally,
there will be an evaluation of the plan to discuss the advantages and the disadvantages of
the plan and then there will be some recommendations according to the future
development.
2 Context
2.1 Introduction of Lenovo
Lenovo Group Limited (Lenovo) is an international personal technology company, which
is based in China. Lenovo develops manufactures and markets desktop and notebook
computers, workstations, servers, storage drives, IT management software, and other
products and services related IT and computers. In 1988, Lenovo was established in Hong
Kong under its previous name, Legend. Nowadays, it has become one of the worlds largest
personal technology companies all over the world. Since it has been established, Lenovo
experienced a very tuff time of competing with big brands in the world. Today, Lenovo is a
multinational corporation with significant operations on six continents and operating in
more than 60 countries and selling products in 160 (Lenovo, Our Company, 2012). In
terms of the market share, Lenovo has experienced a significant growth in less than 30
years. Especially, in 2005, an important change happened in Lenovo, as well as in the PC
world. In 2005, Lenovo completed the acquisition of IBMs Personal Computing Division.
After the acquisition, the IBMs Personal Computing Division has become a new
international IT competitor and the third-largest personal computer company in the world
(Lenovo, Our History, 2012). Through this acquisition, Lenovo has managed to transform
itself from a China based local PC maker to a multinational technology company.
2.2 External environment analysis
From 1991, Lenovo started to sell its own brand personal computers, and began to set up
its own brand. It only cost Lenovo a very short time to build up a well-known PC brand in
