Discussion #1 (Police strategies today)
The most effective police strategy is the intelligence led policing because it seems to have a
better understanding of how to control crime. The strategy also puts in more care to their
citizens to be able to catch criminals. A lot of police agencies are looking for alternatives
because what they are doing is not working as well as they thought it was, or has more flaws
then it had to begin with. They have realized that what they have is not working as well as it
used to. Criminals are getting smarter, and police needs to be one step ahead. Also some
programs that they have taken up more money than the department can afford and, the
program has to shut down.
Intelligence lead base policing became known in the US after nine eleven, but the approach
began in the United Kingdom in the 1990s. Intelligent policing has a lot of information that
police officers can use to catch criminals by using data that they have gathered. This strategy is
used to get the identification and targeting of the criminal subpopulation. This means that
everybody in the particular area wherever the crime has been committed, the police have data
on them. It does not matter where the area the crime happened they have the data to catch a
crime.
