My 33 Variations Response
I have been in a few plays in my past. I was once a part of a school play called The
Wizard of Oz. In this play I was an emerald lady and a munchkin. I liked being in The Wizard of
Oz so I joined another play a few years later called The Hillbilly Pageant. Now this play it was
really fun because I had to become a hillbilly wife to a really young boy so I felt like a
pedophile. Taken part in these play got me interested in theater but the play I am going to talk
about is a play I have not been in and it is called the 33 Variations.
October eight-tenth was a cold cloudy day. In the morning I was out shopping and doing
laundry with my mother and sister. I had on workout clothes which was thin so it being cold
outside I had to do laundry before I went to 33 Variations at seven thirty. By the time I got both
of the needed things done I went to my dorm room, put away the groceries, and sprinted to the
New Theater. I almost did not make it to the theater before they closed the doors but I did now
have several layers on so I would not get sick walking back to my dorm room at ten at night. I
noticed many things during the play that I learned in class.
One of the things I learned was about costumes. The costumes in 33 Variations differed
from time to time to tell a difference in time era, where they were at, or who was rich and who
was poor. I learned that back then they did not have white like we do now; back then they had a
tinted off white. Then they used a bright red for Anton Diabelli to say he became rich when the
years went by. Anton used to wear what the other actors for the past wore was browns and an off

white shirt. Another costume change I seen was when Beethoven went from clean clothes to dirty
clothes as the years went by to signify he was getting poorer. The easiest way to change
character, time, and place is costume change.
