30 Day Challenge Narrative Essay
For my 30 day challenge, I chose to document the process of fixing up my house. My husband
and I wanted to fix up our house so that we can put it on the market. We have been talking about fixing
it for months, but have been either too busy or too lazy to get around to actually doing it. Finally
deciding to hire someone to get the house fixed will force us to stop procrastinating and finally get the
projects done around the house that we have been talking about doing. It will also help increase the
value of our property and hopefully appeal to buyers. It was a challenging experience for my husband
and I, but in the end the house is looking great and I believe it will pay off in the end.
After we hired someone to oversee the repairs on the house it was my job to get the house
ready. It was somewhat saddening to take down all our family pictures and wedding stuff I had
displayed around the house. However it was also refreshing because there was a lot of stuff like art and
furniture from my husband’s first wife that needed to be gone. I was amazed that I found enough room
in the closets to store everything and I was able to fit a lot of the larger items in the garage. The
weekend right before work was supposed to start on the house was the most hectic of my life. My
husband and stepdaughter left on Saturday to drive to Colorado for a week-long conference and my
parents drove into town on Sunday night to help my brother pack and move to Lubbock. Clearing out
the house was a big project, especially in this Texas summer heat. I’m not much for manual labor, but
when I set my mind to a project I turn like OCD and zone in to get it all done. Once the house was pretty
much cleared out and everything was off the walls it was time to start the work…or so I thought.
