1. The crowd challenges Jesus, “If he is the Christ…”, 23:35. How does this recall the
temptation in the desert at the beginning of Jesus’ ministry?
On the cross, the Lord was ridiculed by the people and the robber who was crucified
with Him. This reminds me Satan’s temptation to Jesus. Satan also questioned if
Jesus really the Messiah is. Those people are just like Satan and they don’t
understand that God’s will is to accomplish His plan of salvation through the death
of the cross. People who are truly held by God in His will often “save others” but
cannot “save themselves”; and only those who do not save themselves can save
others. If He saves himself, he cannot save us.
