5. Your sibling sends you this Mother’s day advertisement arguing that it is a beautiful
tribute to mothers. Email your sibling a response refuting his idea by demonstrating the
gender inequalities that the ad perpetuates.
I can see how you think this is a beautiful tribute for mothers since it shows mothers taking care
of their children but that is the only thing I see. We don’t see any of other strength women
provide for others or even for themselves in the advertisement. I saw that the mothers only dealt
with their children and cleaning. Children require a lot of care and time but that is expected when
you do have a child. They have daily basic needs that their parents fulfill most of the times. I say
this advertisement exhibits gender inequalities since it only provides a specific point of view of
what women can do. But there are endless possibilities with what women can do. For instance,
women are becoming more established than men with their careers. “More than a third of
gainfully employed women were maids or house servants in the twentieth century.” (Giddens
268) This is close to what the advertisement portrays since they are taking care of their children
through basic house chores. Then, we see the children grow up and follow their dreams and
