The Silence of the Lambs
The Silence of the Lambs, directed by Jonathan Demme, is a critically acclaimed horror
movie. This movie composes of everything that an avid horror movie fanatic admires. For
example, it has sexual tension, a stunning leading lady, and serial killers. This movie is
based off of a novel with the same name by Thomas Harris.
The film focuses on Clarice Starling as she journeys through her first case while training to
be an FBI agent. She is required to pursue assistance from Hannibal Lecter, a man-eating
serial killer as well as an intelligent scholar in order to capture Buffalo Bill who is also a
serial killer. Clarice follows out the trail of clues directly to the doorsteps of the Buffalo
Bill himself and rescues his latest victim. Throughout the film, she forms a questionable
bond with Lecter who eventually escapes captivity. At the end, the film leaves the audience
with a cliff hanger because Lecter was not found by the authorities.
One would believe that religion is not involved with movies, especially psychopathic
horror movies but, there are many instances where the religion of Christianity is depicted
in this film. For instance, the title itself has an incredible religious background. In the
bible, Jesus Christ is considered the “Lamb of God” because he is the sacrifice. Jesus
sacrificed his life on the cross for the atonement of the people therefore, just as innocent
lambs are sacrificed. The idea of a scapegoat could also be used here through the idea that
