The Backlash of Thomas Frank
The book What’s the Matter with Kansas: How Conservatives Won the Heart of America
written by Thomas Frank was written in 2004 in response to Bush winning the presidency in
2000. Frank wanted to answer the question of “why so many Americans voted against their
economic and social interests”. Thomas Frank is very critical of republicanism which is shocking
because he is a native Kansan and was once a republican himself. The fact that he is from Kansas
makes him a more credible source since he’s experienced firsthand what it was like to live in
