Working in both as a business owner, having employees, and working as a real estate broker working for
the public citizen, I see ethical behavior as being a vital importance to my everyday life. Not only for the
fact that it is my obligation to my client, to my employee, but to my family and myself if I want to be looked
at as a role model for my children, too looked upon from my peers as someone they can trust and
respect, and as someone who can have employees that feel they are being treated in a respectful manner
while working for me.
First, as a business owner, I have owned and operated a retail operation in bowling centers helping
bowlers with their needs in regards to their equipment, maybe coaching at some level, and selling them a
product that I can be confident is quality in its workmanship. In both a professional manner and in a
personal matter knowing that I am giving my customers a good product, a professional service, and in
turn not trying to make all my profit off one sale is part of the ethical standards I have put forward to all of
my employees that I have hired throughout the years. As a retailer in a specialty market it would be very
easy to put and sell a product that is higher priced than a competitor that is on the other side of town,
there is not a lot of competition in this industry, so in turn it would be easy to overcharge and take
advantage of the ability to do so without really affecting my business. In my experience in the bowling
industry, having traveled around the country and the world, many business owners in this industry do not
feel the same way, and unfortunately is taken out on the customer.
In the automotive business, in which at least on the sales end has been given quite a stigma over the
years as being one of the most dishonest industries that there are. I think many feel that way about car
dealerships, and in many cases from my experience as being a low and high-level manager, they are
accurate with their feelings. I spent very little time in the front of the dealer in the sales department,
approximately 1 year, but it was part of the management track program through the automotive
