“Hospice care is defined as end of life care in which the patient has six months or less to
live. The healthcare professionals and volunteers give the patient medical, psychological and
spiritual support. The goal of hospice care is to assist the dying patient to die with dignity,
comfort, and peace. The healthcare team attempts to control pain to keep the patient pain-free
while also helping them to remain aware of their surroundings.” (Rodriguez). Hospice care can
be administered at home, at a hospital, at a skilled nursing facility or a Hospice center.
Aurora house is located in Weslaco TX and has been assisting dying patients and their
families since 2007. The idea of the hospice home came from the heart of Dr. Rafael Rodriguez,
MD, FACP, Internal Medicine and Palliative care. The idea came to him while visiting his dying
