Who is Elon Musk?
Musk was born in South Africa to a Canadian mother and a South African father. Musk was an avid fan of computers and at the
age of 12, he wrote a computer code for a video game called Blastar and sold it for a profit. Right before Musk turned 18, he
moved to Canada to avoid mandatory South African military service. Musk started his college career in Ontario, Canada. Two
years later, he transferred to University of Pennsylvania, where he obtained his B.A. degree in Economis and a B.S. degree in
Physics. He then moved to California to pursue his career aspirations in the areas of Internet, renewable energy and outer
space. At the age of 24, Musk started his very first company, Zip2, which was an online versions of the New York Times and
Chicago Tribune newspapers. Four years later, Musk sold the company to Compaq for $307 million and pocketed $22 million
himself as the largest stockholder for Zip2. With the money he earned from the sale of Zip2, Musk started his second company
called X.com. X.com provides secure money transfer services using a recipients e-mail address. A year later, X.com acquired
Confinity and initiated a world wide Internet money-transfer process called PayPal, which was the ultimate legal name to replace
X.com and Confinity. In 2002, ebay bought PayPal in a $1.5 billion deal and Musks profit share was $165 million. In the same
year, Musk started SpaceX to develop and manufacture space launch vehicles to support the project of Exploration of Mars. In
2004, Musk cofounded Tesla Motors. The company builds complete electric sports cars. Elon Musk is currently the CEO & CTO
of SpaceX, and the CEO and Chief Product Architect of Tesla Motors. His net worth is $8.8 billion.
